Whoville Brussels Griffons

Summer Wentland
The Brussels Griffon breed originated in Belgium as a stable ratter.  He is a toy dog, very intelligent and inquisitive, small compact body, weighing about 8-10 lbs.  There are two coat types, rough and smooth.  Along with the two coat types there are 4 acceptable colors, red, belge (red and black mixed), solid black, and black and tan.  This little dog has a lot of personality, and loves to be with its owner.  I like to refer to them as "velcro" dogs.

Griffons are best kept in fenced yards, they are little escape artists and should not be allowed to roam unattended.   Griffons are good with most other dogs, larger breeds can cause injury to smaller breeds unintentionally.  This is something to think about before adding a Brussels Griffon to a home with larger breeds.  Being smaller they are not always the best with small children.  This is something you should speak with your breeder about before purchasing your Brussels Griffon.  They are sometimes a challenge to housetrain, due to the small size of the bladder of toy breeds.  Socializing of your Brussels Griffon in the early months, is best done by your breeder.  This is not a breed to be taken home at 8 wks of age.  They need that valuable time with their littermates, and with their mother.  Reputable breeders will not allow puppies go to their new home until 12-16 wks of age.  I advise anyone wishing to get a Griffon to only purchase from a member of the Brussels Griffon clubs.
